Age-age correlation for early selection of rubber tree genotypes in São Paulo State, Brazil Genet. Mol. Biol.
Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza; Bortoletto,Nelson; Cardinal,Átila Bento Beleti; Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima; Costa,Reginaldo Brito da; Moraes,Mário Luiz Teixeira de.
In a field trial involving 68 rubber tree (Hevea spp.) clones calculation of genotypic correlation coefficients revealed significant age-age correlation from age 1 to 6 (immature period) for girth A and for age 7 to 12 (mature period) for girth B and for age 7 to 12 (production of latex) for yield. Rank correlation coefficients between all immature ages of girth (girth A), all ages of mature girth (girth B) and all annual rubber production (yield) were significant for the three traits, with the coefficients decreasing with increasing age. Selection of the sets of best 30, 15, 10 and 5 clones from the available 68 clones at a given age was generally accompanied by a descending order of percentage success. It was suggested: (a) to have the best 30 clones of...

Different methods to assess yield temporal stability in rubber PAB
Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima; Silva,Guilherme Augusto Peres; Scaloppi Junior,Erivaldo José; Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza.
The objective of this work was to assess, during six years, the temporal stability of natural rubber yield of 25 superior Hevea brasiliensis genotypes, using the Wricke, Eberhart & Russell, Lin & Binns, additive main effect and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) analysis, and harmonic mean of the relative performance of the genetic values (HMRPGV) methods. The IAC 40 and IAC 300 genotypes were identified as stable and high yielding by the Eberhart & Russell, Lin & Binns, HMRPGV, and AMMI Biplot methods. The ranking of the other more stable genotypes identified by these analyses was altered. The observed results in the AMMI Biplot agreed with those observed in the Wricke method for identifying stable, but lower yielding...

Divergence and genetic variability among superior rubber tree genotypes PAB
Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima; Chiorato,Alisson Fernando; Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza.
The objective of this work was to estimate the genetic variability and divergence among 22 superior rubber tree (Hevea sp.) genotypes of the IAC 400 series. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using eight quantitative traits (descriptors), including yield. In the univariate analyses, the estimated parameters were: genetic and environmental variances; genetic and environmental coefficients of variation; and the variation index. The Mahalanobis generalized distance, the Tocher agglomerative method and canonical variables were used for the multivariate analyses. In the univariate analyses, variability was verified among the genotypes for all the variables evaluated. The Tocher method grouped the genotypes into 11 clusters of dissimilarity. The...

Genetic divergence of rubber tree estimated by multivariate techniques and microsatellite markers Genet. Mol. Biol.
Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima; Rubiano,Luciana Benchimol; Chioratto,Alisson Fernando; Zucchi,Maria Imaculada; Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza.
Genetic diversity of 60 Hevea genotypes, consisting of Asiatic, Amazonian, African and IAC clones, and pertaining to the genetic breeding program of the Agronomic Institute (IAC), Brazil, was estimated. Analyses were based on phenotypic multivariate parameters and microsatellites. Five agronomic descriptors were employed in multivariate procedures, such as Standard Euclidian Distance, Tocher clustering and principal component analysis. Genetic variability among the genotypes was estimated with 68 selected polymorphic SSRs, by way of Modified Rogers Genetic Distance and UPGMA clustering. Structure software in a Bayesian approach was used in discriminating among groups. Genetic diversity was estimated through Nei's statistics. The genotypes were clustered...

Genetic parameters and estimated genetic gains in young rubber tree progenies PAB
Verardi,Cecília Khusala; Scaloppi Junior,Erivaldo José; Silva,Guilherme Augusto Peres; Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima; Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza.
The objective of this work was to assess the genetic parameters and to estimate genetic gains in young rubber tree progenies. The experiments were carried out during three years, in a randomized block design, with six replicates and ten plants per plot, in three representative Hevea crop regions of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Twenty-two progenies were evaluated, from three to five years old, for rubber yield and annual girth growth. Genetic gain was estimated with the multi-effect index (MEI). Selection by progenies means provided greater estimated genetic gain than selection based on individuals, since heritability values of progeny means were greater than the ones of individual heritability, for both evaluated variables, in all the assessment years....

Genetic variability and selection for laticiferous system characters in Hevea brasiliensis Genet. Mol. Biol.
Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza; Cardinal,Átila Bento Beleti; Costa,Reginaldo Brito da; Bortoletto,Nelson; Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima.
Six laticiferous system characters were investigated in 22 three-year-old, half-sib rubber tree [Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex Adr. de Juss.) Muell.-Arg.] progenies, evaluated at three sites (Votuporanga, Pindorama and Jaú, all in the São Paulo State, Brazil). The traits examined were: average rubber yield (Pp), average bark thickness (Bt), number of latex vessel rings (Lv), average distance between consecutive latex vessel rings (Dc), density of latex vessels per 5 mm per ring averaged over all rings (Dd) and the diameter of the latex vessels (Di). The joint analysis showed that site effect and progeny x sites interaction were significant for all traits, except Lv. Estimates of individual heritabilities across the three sites were high for Bt; moderate...

Performance of new Hevea clones from IAC 400 series Scientia Agricola
Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza; Silva,Marcelo de Almeida; Aguiar,Adriano Tosoni da Eira; Martins,Maria Alice; Scaloppi Junior,Erivaldo José; Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima.
The Hevea breeding program of Instituto Agronômico de Campinas (IAC) has completed clonal evaluation on the following series: IAC 100, IAC 200 and IAC 300. The performance of 22 clones of Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex Adr. de Juss.) Muell.-Arg., evolved at IAC, over a period of eleven years was evaluated in the Western Central part of the São Paulo State, Brazil. Among these 22 new clones, six were intraspecific hybrid clones (IAC 400, IAC 404, IAC 405, IAC 406, IAC 410, IAC 412) and the remaining are primary those resulted from selected ortets within half-sib progenies. An old popular clone RRIM 600, of Malaysian origin, was used as the control. The trial was laid out in a randomized block design with three replications. Yield performance over a period of...

Prediction of Hevea progeny performance in the presence of genotype-environment interaction BABT
Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza; Moraes,Mário Luiz Teixeira de; Silva,Marcelo de Almeida; Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima; Aguiar,Adriano Tosoni da Eira; Costa,Reginaldo Brito da.
Twenty two open-pollinated Hevea progenies from different parental clones of the Asian origin were tested at five sites in the Northwestern São Paulo State Brazil to investigate the progeny girth growth, rubber yield, bark thickness and plant height. Except for the rubber yield, the analysis of variance indicated highly significant (p<0.01) genotype x environment interaction and heterogeneity of regressions among the progenies. However, the regression stability analysis identified only a few interacting progenies which had regression coefficients significantly different from the expected value of one. The linear regressions of the progeny mean performance at each test on an environmental index (mean of all the progenies in each test) showed the general...

Temporal stability for unpredictable annual climatic variability for Hevea genotype selection BABT
Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza; Moraes,Mário Luiz Teixeira de; Gouvêa,Lígia Regina Lima; Aguiar,Adriano Tosoni da Eira; Scallopi Júnior,Erivaldo José.
The objective of this study was to assess genotype-year interaction and determine temporal stable genotypes across six years of rubber yield evaluation. Stability analyses were performed by Eberhart and Russell method for rubber yield. Twenty-five genotypes were analyzed in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The best genotype in one year was not same always in the other year. The genotype components were partitioned into linear (genotypes within year) and nonlinear (pooled deviations) components. Significant mean square for linear components was predictable. This indicated that the performance of genotypes across the years for rubber yield could be predicted. Among the analyzed genotypes the IAC 40 also was considered highly...
